The Sony World Photography Awards Join with iStockphoto to Find the World's Best Amateur Photographers
(PRWEB) January 22, 2009 -- iStockphoto (www.istockphoto.com) has partnered with the World Photography Awards to become the offical Amateur Selection committee for the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards (www.worldphotographyawards.org) (SWPA).
Run alongside its professional awards, SWPA invited amateur photographers from across the globe to submit their images into any of the nine amateur categories, which iStockphoto's expert team then judge down to the top shortlist. The categories cover a broad range of subjects from portraiture to sport, architecture to fashion, and offer an all-encompassing competition for the photographic world.
The shortlist of ten amateur photographers per category will be announced on 24 February 2009. From these, eight category winners will be chosen by the official 2009 Judging Committee comprising of selected World Photographic Academy members and later showcased as part of the 2009 Finalists Exhibitions in Cannes from 14-19 April 2009 and will go on to be part of the annual SWPA Global Tour throughout 2009 and 2010.
One of the eight category winners, chosen by the 2009 Judging Committee, will be awarded The Sony World Photography Awards Amateur Photographer of the Year title. As part of their prize, this overall winner will be flown to Cannes to attend the SWPA gala awards ceremony and collect the prize of $5,000 onstage.
iStockphoto is the world's busiest online image market, where every single second someone from around the world downloads a royalty-free image or video. Since 2000, iStockphoto has helped thousands of photographers hone their skills and gives them a platform to sell their work professionally. This makes iStock a perfect partner for the WPA whose aim is to support and promote photographers worldwide.
